The European Master’s Program in Computational Logic

We are glad to offer you the possibility to join our European Master Program of Computational Logic (EMCL). This program carries the Erasmus Mundus brand name and is offered jointly at the Free-University of Bozen-Bolzano (FUB) in Italy, the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) in Germany, the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL) in Portugal and the Technische Universität Wien (TUW) in Austria. Starting in the first semester at TUD,  moving in the second semeser to FUB and choosing a partner university in the second year,  you have the choice to study at up to three leading European universities. Furthermore, we have teamed up with the National ICT Australia (NICTA), which gives you the possibility to work on a project at one of the world’s leading research centers. You will graduate with a joint MSc in Computer Science from the European universities, at which you have studied. The Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (http://www.sicsa.ac.uk)  is a collaboration of leading Scottish Universities whose aim is to work together to consolidate and extend Scotland’s position as an international research leader in computer science and informatics. As part of this, the Scottish Graduate Academy in Informatics and Computer Science offers up to 20 international prize studentships per year to outstanding candidates who wish to study for a PhD in Scotland. These studentships are open to excellent students from any country. There are no residency or citizenship requirements. We will consider applicants in any area of computer science and informatics but may give preference to students who are working in SICSA theme areas (http://www.sicsa.ac.uk/themes )

MULTIMOD project

The network will provide unique cross- and multi-disciplinary training opportunities. Researchers applying for a position are requested to email their CV accompanied by a letter of motivation and two letters of recommendation at the contact person of the host institution.

All applicants shall also be requested to provide proof that, at the time of recruitment, are eligible for initial training and that they fulfill the conditions of nationality and mobility as specified in page 13 of the ‘Guide for Applicants’ for Marie Curie ITNs. Researchers will be allowed to apply for no more than two different positions, either at the same or different organizations of the network.

We are looking for a Ph.D. student for the broad areas of credit risk models, credit derivatives or general dependence modelling in risk management. The position is in the Christian Doppler Laboratory on Portfolio Risk Management (PRisMa Lab). The laboratory is located within the research group for financial and actuarial mathematics at the Vienna University of Technology, it is headed by Prof. Uwe Schmock. The laboratory is funded by the Christian Doppler Research Association, which is a non-profit association aiming to promote high-quality research, development and knowledge transfer in Austria. The research is carried out jointly with the Bank Austria, the Austrian Federal Financing Agency (ÖBFA) and FJA Feilmeier & Junker. Your main area of activity will be high-quality research in “Modelling, pricing, and hedging counterparty credit exposure” (see the recent Springer book by Cesari et al. with the same title for details), in particular joint modelling of the dependence of market dynamics and default mechanisms, the integration of historical and market implied data, and the development of efficient numerical algorithms for portfolios with complex products, always with a view towards practical applicability.

This project is funded by the Thyssen Foundation. It is co-directed by Prof. Gabriel Felbermayr at Universität Hohenheim (Stuttgart) and by Prof. Julien Prat at IAE Barcelona. The candidate should hold a graduate degree (Master or German Diplom) in economics, preferably with a background in trade theory and/or labor economics. He/she should have good quantitative skills, some training in econometrics, as well as a good command of English.

The INTRO project (INTeractive RObotics Research Network) is offering 10 research positions (8 PhD student positions starting in 2010 and 2 post-doctoral positions starting in 2011) in the interdisciplinary areas of Interactive Robotics; Cooperative Robot Learning, Cognitive Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) and Intelligent Interface Design.

INTRO aims to create a new generation of robotic researchers with a broad understanding of the research and technologies needed to build intelligent robots that function in close interaction with humans in unstructured, changing “real word” conditions. The training has a strong multidisciplinary approach complemented by specialized domain knowledge. Young researchers will work closely with industries, endowing them with insight and understanding of the industrial product life-cycle and valuable hands-on experience of top-level industrial robot development. By blending complementary skills, INTRO will improve the career perspectives of young researchers, in both academic and industrial sectors. This will be achieved through a transnational network of universities and robot companies, with senior researchers from different disciplines (robotics, artificial intelligence, cognitive sciences, human factors) coming from different `schools-of-thought’ (computer sciences, industrial engineering, psychology).
